    Introduction

    Judicial Officers Training Institute (JOTI), Nagpur

    Acknowledging the need and necessity to impart proper training to the Judicial Officers, High Court of Judicature at Bombay and the Government of Maharashtra established this Institute on 3rd September, 1972. This Institute functioned till 31st May, 1978 and was thereafter, unfortunately closed.

    1. Judicial officers training institute Maharashtra, Nagpur Front sideThe Institute was revived/re-opened on 8.12.1986, with a view to impart basic knowledge to the newly appointed Judges in the judicial service and to impart refresher training to the judicial officers already in service.

    2. Upon revival, it was decided to construct a new complex for JOTI. The foundation stone for the existing complex was laid on 11.2.1989. The building was completed and it was inaugurated on 13th April 1997.

    3. The present complex is situated in the green & peaceful civil lines area of Nagpur City, and consists of Administrative and Academic Block. The institute has recreational & residential hostel facility for the trainees, including mess facility.

    4. At present JOTI has residential accommodation for 65 Trainee Officers. 40 Trainee Officers can be accommodated in AC rooms on sharing basis in the new hostel building of JOTI and the old hostel building has capacity of 27 single Bed Non-AC rooms.

    5. With the establishment of Maharashtra Judicial Academy at Uttan (Bhayandar), District Thane in June, 2009, the core training activities of imparting training to Judicial Officers has shifted from JOTI to MJA, Uttan. However, the Institute since thereafter, has been exclusively organizing training programmes (both induction and refresher course) for Public Prosecutors and mediation training / refreshers training programme for Advocates and Judicial Officers of Maharashtra & Goa.

    6. In furtherance of the perspective of imparting legal education and improving skills of Judicial Officers and Prosecutors, JOTI, has also been organizing periodic refresher and motivational courses to boost the morale of the important functionaries of the judicial system.
